Tonight I got to meet two very adorable little munchkins - Chase and Reese. We went down to the waterfront to get some photos for a surprise for their dad for Father's Day. Their dad works for the city and the waterfront is one of his projects - so it has a special place for this family! The kids were great and the hot evening ended up with messy, gooey ice cream cones - perfect!!!

Vince & Heather
A couple weeks ago I had the fun of shooting Vince & Heather's wedding. They should be back from their time in Italy now - and so here are a few more from their beautiful day! The square dance was so much fun! Vince and Heather are two of the most caring, loving people. A fun day!

Happy Mother's Day... to me!
It is our family's tradition that every Mother's Day we do a family photo. You see, my husband (and often times my girls too) do not enjoy having their photos taken! But for one day a year, I ask for my gift that they cooperate. So, for the past few years we've been doing Mother's Day family photos each year.
Tonight we did the photos and I had forgotten how hard it is to take photos of your own family )especially when you're trying to be in them!). Here's a few from tonight...

Father's Day
Well, we just finished our Mother's Day contest... so I naturally started to think about Father's Day.
In today's society, we do not have a lot of strong Father figures. As I "Googled" looking for Father's Day quotes I found quotes heavy with regrets, and sadness over absent or abusive Fathers.
For this reason I find it all the more important to celebrate the Fathers and men in our lives who have been there and loved us. As I looked over my photos I was thrilled to see fathers who were there helping their infant daughters to walk, and then in a blink of an eye walking them down an aisle to entrust them to another man. Men who put pride aside to dance and goof off with kids. Grandpas who found walking a chore - but dancing with a grandchild a delight.
Enter today and WIN!
Send me an e-mail ("Father's Day" as the subject) with some of your thoughts about the man or men in your life who have impacted you in a positive way. It need not be a Father - a teacher, a friend, a pastor, a brother. I want to celebrate relationships! I love stories and would love to read yours! A $10 gift certificate to Krista Jefferson Photography will be given to all valid entries (one gift certificate per household) - just for sharing about the men you love! The First Place Winner will receive a free photo session and a $25 gift certificate for Krista Jefferson Photography. Contest closes June 13, 2007 and the winner will be announced on June 15!(Please note: I may use quotes from your stories on the blog - we all want to celebrate these men together!) I will be sending a printable version of the gift certificates that you can print off - so you can still get it in time for Father's Day!
To get you started thinking about Father's Day here is a slideshow of some recent men sharing their love and their lives with those around them...

Mother's Day
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Mother's Day contest. I love reading your stories of women who have impacted you. There were stories of babysitters, Grandmas and mothers and the constant theme was the simple acts of love they offered. Each contributor would state how they wanted to be like that women who impacted them. What a legacy!
The winner was Wendi and her story struck me - her mother had much to be sour and negative about but she was a consistently strong example in Wendi's life. Thank you, Wendi's mom! You can read part of Wendi's story here:
"The woman that's inspired me most in my life is my mother. My mother has had a hard life. My mother…was a great homemaker and had four beautiful daughters (me being one of them). When I was 4, my little sister passed away (she was 2 years old) and, needless to say, my mother went through a very rough time, as did all of us, but I never once remember seeing her NOT be strong for me. She was always a great, loving and caring mother. After a while, my two other younger sisters were born and still my mom remained a great mother and homemaker. She was very involved in music and taught me to play piano and gave piano lessons out of our home, she inspired me and I became a great pianist myself. My mother raised all three of us girls into the wonderful, strong, independent women we are today. If I can even be half the woman that my Mom was in her life, I know that I will have accomplished a lot.""
Other women that impacted lives were:
I heard time and time again, people take themselves too seriously and God not seriously enough. She really lived the opposite. She didn’t like to be the center of attention but always seemed to draw people to her as she is so sunny and loving.
by Jaci
Sometimes it is hard to put into words what my Mom means to me. She is a Mother, a friend and a great comfort. I've watched her bury two parents, I've watched her raise a son with disabilities and continue to advocate on his behalf, and through it all, she is still strong. She has been there through it all and yet she still loves me. My Mom spoils me and is always thoughtful. When I go home for Christmas the fridge always has chocolate milk! Now that is love!
by Jennifer
My woman of influence was my Mennonite babysitter....warm and tender...she gave me
the gift of time. She didn’t possess any of the worldly qualities we admire...she wasn’t particularly attractive....she had very little money...no education to speak of ...but she was rich in love and personality.
by Katie
I sat quietly wrapped in a blanket the other day on my mother’s couch, and my mother turned to me and sparkled, saying, “you know, looking at you there getting warmed up reminds me of when I used to bathe you. I’d put your pajamas under my shirt to warm them up before you put them on”. I was instantly warmed by this memory. This memory slipped gently into others of my mother transforming my humble life into a rich one with the mere yet magnificent acts and words of a mother.
by Vanessa
If I had to pick one, it would be my Grandma Mac, my maternal
grandmother. You hear a lot of people that have a kindred relationship
something that can't be touched by anyone else and that is what our
relationship was like. As a child, I spoke to her every day,
sometimes calling her in the morning before I left for school, ALWAYS
calling her when I got home to share my day with her. We had an
understanding that was unspoken.

...and there are so many more women who have impacted the lives around you often without knowing. THANK YOU!

Tom and Chantal's Engagement Photos
Sunday morning bright and early I met Tom and Chantal to photograph their engagement photos. Chantal and I have been e-mailing for a long time – so it was great to finally meet face to face! We met at Sam Lawrence Park in Hamilton and had a great morning snapping photos. Chantal has a great laugh – often thanks to Tom’s antics! Can’t wait to photograph their Big Day next month!
Jeremy & Rebecca's Engagement Photos
On Saturday I had the fun of photographing Rebecca and Jeremy (and their family dog). I had met them in the Fall and after a long winter it was great to get out and enjoy a gorgeous Spring day together! I’m really looking forward to their wedding in August – should be absolutely beautiful!
We met at Waterworks park in St. Thomas (outside of London). It’s a great park with lots of ponds, birds, bridges and blossoming trees. Signs of Spring were everywhere!

Baby Mia
The Genereux are a family I have grown to love as I am thrilled to be able to regularly photograph them. We have developed a friendship through our photo shoots and I just love these guys. A month ago I photographed Lisa as she awaited the newest addition to the family - this morning I was able to meet little Miss Mia - and what a sweetheart! I look forward to watching her grow and develop and capturing these moments. As always Lisa & Mike - thank you for letting me into your home and your family to celebrate these moments along with you.

Happy Mother's Day to everyone! And thank you to all of you who entered our Mother's Day contest - I laughed and cried as I read about the women in your lives who have impacted you. May we all be impacting the lives of those around us today and always.
I have two little girls and a hubby waiting for me to go play outside with them and enjoy this beautiful day! Happy Mother's Day to all of you!

Vince & Heather
Saturday Vince & Heather got married at a beautiful old church in Toronto. They both love vintage things - so I tried to give some of the photos more of a timeless feel. They were both so happy - and I just loved watching how Heather responds to Vince with the glorious big laugh and beaming face. Thank you for letting me be a prt of your fun-filled day!

Havana
It's official. I fell in love with Cuba! Especially Havana. I was there yesterday and could not have had more fun! My new friend Mia (sister of the bride) and I explored Havana... first we met a local Cuban girl, Leah who asked what we wanted to see and I told her "real life - not the touristy spots". She took us to the store where she gets her rationed food, a local bar (where we were serenaded), and then asked if there was anything else we wanted to see. I said I really wanted to see how the Cuban people lived - so she took us right into her home! What a gift. Then when Mia and I explored more on our own we came across an open square where older Cuban men were playing dominoes, met lots of people, watched people getting their haircut in the park, saw lots of great architecture and old cars. And at one point we heard this great live band... so we followed the music and found this "jam session" basically in a crammed little room - and through some fancy sign language on both their and my parts - they invited me in to snap pictures while they played. They were great! I could not have enjoyed my day more! I'm itching to go back now - this time with Mark. the colours, sounds, and energy of the city was absolutely incredible. Here's a glimpse into my day yesterday.... (towards the end are my fave pics!)
Nathan & Rachel Part 2
I had this slideshow created right after Nathan & Rachel's wedding last week - but the slow Cuban internet connection wouldn't let me upload it. So without further ado...

Hola! from Cuba
Well, I am in Cuba for a few days shooting a wedding. Yesterday was the ceremony and it was gorgeous! The ceremony was right on the beach and God was definitely smiling down on the day - the sky and the ocean were bursting with colour.
Aaron & Sandra, it has been so fun getting to know you, your friends & your family! Thank you for bringing me along on this incredible journey and allowing me to be part of your Day & lives.
(Internet is slow here in Cuba so I have not been able to upload slideshows from this wedding or Nathan & Rachel's. I have them made and ready to go... when I get home on Thursday I'll have them up!)
and one that I thought was pretty funny....

Sighting
While at the Salvation Army luncheon yesterday, I happened to be walking by a window and glanced outside and liked the image and quickly snapped this shot. Something about it "worked" for me - how the lines framed the girl in, how she looks sad - and then the wire fence on the bridge (this is going over railway tracks) made it look like she was in prison. It was a really random shot - but those are often some of my favourites!
Mother's Day Update
The entries so far for the Mother's Day Contest (LINK) have been incredible. Thank you. I am interested to see how the entries are for women who made an impact in day-to-day life. Not because they rushed into a burning house and dragged out the family (although wow! wouldn't that be a cool story!) but because they were consistently there for their loved ones and caring 110% of the time. What a great reminder to me personally as a wife, mother, daughter, friend... to be consistent in my love for those in my circle. Thank you for sharing.
Just to answer a question I've been asked a couple times - yes, you can share this contest with anyone. It is open to anyone who has been impacted by a woman in their life that wants to share.
Speaking of moms - thought you could all use a good chuckle at me and my mom! I found this old photo recently - it's from my baby dedication and I believe it was taken on Mother's Day 1976. I'm the bald one with the big eyes ;-)
Salvation Army
Yesterday I had the pleasure of volunteering some time photographing for the Salvation Army again. They were having their 125th celebration luncheon at the beautiful Liuna Station. Heather Hiscox from CBC News was the speaker and Sunni Genesco from K-Lite FM was the MC. It was a great event and an honour to give some time to such an incredible ministry!
A perfect day for an outdoor band...
I loved watching the reflections in the instruments...
Byron Jacobs being interviewed by Channel 14...
The Chief of Police arrives...
I love details - like Salvation Army Red Shield chocolates!
A stunning venue - Liuna Station
Sunni Genesco from K-Lite FM (who I listen to every morning)
and the main speaker Heather Hiscox from CBC News

Mother's Day CONTEST
Well, Mother's Day is just around the corner. As we work on cleaning out our basement, I have been going through old photographs and letters. I am struck by the women in my life who have impacted me. I like to think of Mother's Day as not just for the "moms" in our lives - but for the important women in my life. I have to agree with Oprah (just once): "Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother."
For me that's my wonderful sister who spoils me and my family beyond belief. My Grandma - who at 93 is as spunky and fun as ever! My mom who just loves, and loves, and loves some more. My aunts, my friends, my mother-in-laws, all the women who have invested time, love and energy into my life. Thank you.
As I was looking at photos that showed women's caring relationships - I was drawn to a reoccurring action. Children nestling into their moms - as if for protection and comfort. From babes to grown children, I think we think of the mom figures in our lives as a comfort. A refuge. I know when my own two girls are upset, they just need to be held and loved. My youngest, Eden, will ask "I lay head on your shoulder" when she is upset - and suddenly her two year-old world is right again.
This Mother's Day may you enjoy the comfort and love of the women in your life - and take time to thank them for how they have impacted you!
Enter today and WIN!
Send me an e-mail telling me briefly about the women in your life that have impacted you (a mom, sister, aunt, friend, neighbour...). What makes them so great? I love stories and would love to read yours! A $10 gift certificate to Krista Jefferson Photography will be given to all valid entries (one gift certificate per household) - just for sharing about the women you love! The First Place Winner will receive a free photo session and a $25 gift certificate for Krista Jefferson Photography. Contest closes May 12, 2007 and the winner will be announced on Mother's Day!(Please note: I may use quotes from your stories on the blog - we all want to celebrate these women together!) I will be sending a printable version of the gift certificates that you can print off - so you can still get it to her in time for Mother's Day! (Whew!)
Again - to enter, send me an e-mail with the subject line "Mother's Day".
